It’s not always easy being a veggie, but even if you eat meat but just fancy some decent veggie food, you can be sure to find something tasty on the menu at any of the below:

  • Anna Loka – Cardiff’s first-ever fully vegan restaurant, and bloody good it is too. Try the vegan fry up or the Sunday roast!
  • The Vegetarian Food Studio – Award-winning, unpretentious Indian cafe offering eat-in and takeaway options.
  • Milgi Lounge – Arty, quirky vegetarian bar and restaurant offering an ever changing menu of seasonal delights. One of my favourite veggie places in Cardiff. They also run regular events including crafts evenings and jumble sales.
  • Crumbs Kitchen – Situated in the beautiful old Morgan Arcade, Crumbs serves a range of hot and cold, tasty vegetarian  and vegan food (think salad-y things) in Cardiff city centre.
  • Caban – I’ve heard rave reviews about this place yet STILL haven’t been! Mainly vegetarian menu which changes with the seasons, and it’s BYOB too.
  • Clancy’s – Situated inside Cardiff’s old market hall, Clancy’s is a fab little veggie food stall, just perfect for a quick lunch. Bean burgers, butternut bhajis, and superfood bakes are available ready-to-eat hot, or cold to take away and enjoy at home.
  • Herbivore – A pop-up dinner club run by Simon Matthew, a local chef and long-time vegetarian, known to many from his time at Milgi and the Embassy Cafe. Check the website for dates.
  • Kemis Pontcanna – I am kicking myself for taking so long to try this place. So many lovely fresh and interesting salads on offer, a cosy, friendly atmosphere, and of course, those massive veggie onion bhaji scotch eggs!
  • Chapter Caffi Bar (vegetarian options)The Chapter Arts Centre in Canton boasts an award winning dining space, serving locally sourced produce and great German beer. The menu changes all the time so it’s worth visiting often!
  • The Grazing Shed (vegetarian options) – faux-ethical restaurant with not a lot of substance to back up their claims of eco-friendliness. The veggie burgers, however, are excellent.
  • Waterloo Tea (mostly vegetarian, with a dedicated ‘raw’ menu selection) – with three locations around Cardiff, these guys serve an absolutely gorgeous feta and harissa cous cous salad. Find them in the city centre, Penarth and Roath.
  • Pizza Express (vegetarian / vegan options) – Did you know Pizza Express do a vegan pizza? It’s really great, and you can take your own vegan cheese to be added if you like.
